The 5th International Symposium on Sturgeon is the fifth of the highly successful series of symposia that is organized once every four years. The first International Symposium on Sturgeons was held at Bordeaux, France (1989), the second at Moscow, Russia (1993), the third at Piacenza, Italy (1997) and the forth at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA (2001).
The I.R. of Iran is a leading producer of caviar in the world and also the plays a significant role in the conservation and sustainable use of sturgeon stocks in the Caspian Sea.
Following tremendous effort, finally, Iran could obtain the permission from the World Sturgeon Conservation Society to host such a Symposium. This symposium opened on 9 May 2005 with the opening speech made by the Minister of Jehad-e-Agricultural Ministry and closed on 13 May 2005 with the Ramsar Declaration made for the conservation of sturgeons throughout the world. About 600 participants from 25 different countries attended this symposium.

This symposium was organized by the Secretariat of the International Sturgeon Research Institute and was mainly sponsored by the Iranian Fisheries Research Organization, Iranian Fisheries Organization, Shilat Trading Company and the Imperial Caviar Company on 9-13 May 2005.

To inform

The International Sturgeon Research Institute is looking for a potential source for the purchase of about 2000 Polyodon spathula fingerlings weighing 1-2 g.We require these specimens solely for research purposes and to study the prospective of raising them in carp ponds and/or in monoculture systems. If any farm in Europe or Asia is willing to supply us with the specimens we require, we would be interested in getting information about the cost, mode of transport and transfer and any related information.

We would like to inform you that the International sturgeon Research Institute wants to establish a sturgeon data bank. We request all University professors, experts, managers, students, sturgeon producers and fish culturist to send us some information about sturgeons such as Final project reports, Scientific and technical findings, PhD, M.Sc and B.Sc Theses, Picture, Scientific reports in this address: info@sturgeon.ir or connect us with this phone number +98-0132-5743725 ( Scientific information Department ).
All of information is registered in data band with their authors' names. We would like to thank you in advance for your collaboration.
